Save a picture to 72 dpi

Hi, there is a problem! How do I save a picture to 72 dpi so that did not change its size?

the quick answer to this is to make a copy in xtreme and increase its size by 133.33..% [so it shpws 72dpi on the status bar] and then export this at 72dpi

this may not be absolutely precise though

Can you change the default dpi in the OPTIONS menu to 72dpi from 96dpi?

xtreme works internally at 96dpi
this is causing the resizing
it cannot be reset in the program

does resizing the bitmap not work?

only for 'auto-generated' bitmaps - AFAIK that does not apply to export or bitmap copy functions

72 dpi is Macintosh screen resolution. 96dpi is Windows screen resolution. If you save your image at 72dpi and it is viewed on a Mac the size will be right. But when viewed in Windows the size is smaller.

But the bigger question, if I might ask, is why do you want to save the image at 72 dpi? Unless you are designing specifically for a Macintosh viewer, you are better off exporting at Windows resolution, 96 dpi.

If this was not your question and want to know how to export an image and change the export resolution, see the attached. Highlight the resolution in the Bitmap Size tabbed section, and key in the desired resolution.

He has tried this but it resizes the image of course, and that is the problem, he does not want this resizing to happen - at least that is how I read it...

If you know a way of changing the export dpi without affecting the hight and width in the dialog box I would love to know it

Otherwise the only way to do it is to resize the bitmap [picture] in xtreme before export - right?

It is an easy thing in Photoshop, but this ability is missing in Xtreme.

In Photoshop > Image > Image Size: I note the pixel dimensions of the image, change the resolution, this changes the pixels size. Then I change the pixels size back to the original.

Though your suggestion of changing the percent is probably the correct answer.
