Thanks Steve. I know how to do what you've described, but I thought I was missing some sort of magic wand or tool like that to make everything easier. Glad to know I was on the right tract, thanks again. Also, thanks for the tut links. I've bookmarked them and will refer to them often.

So getting the white removed is fine. I just don't know how to change the green in the image to say, red or another color. I do know how to use the contone to change greyscale or something that has light or dark areas. Just not sure about something like this. Any suggestions?
You can replace colors also using Mehdi Eraser Classic.
To revert transparency of some areas you have to draw non transparent shapes and put them behind.
Here's the step-by-step mini tutorial on how would I do this.
    Hope it helps.

Another great lesson, John. Thanks for the help.

How exactly did the contone thing work, though??

Once you have the black and white image you can use a Live Effects > Color > Negative to make the black white (attached).

M You need to create a rough vector shape to go behind the white areas and apply a white fill. Bring the bitmap to the front.

that's a cool effect Gary. At that point I can make it any color I want or need.

There is no CLEAN version of this logo anywhere for me.

I'll have to mess around more with the bitmap tracer to get a better starting point.

As you say, Bobby, your bitmap isn't of the best quality. I used Vector Magic to produce the version attached, and a .xar file if it helps.
