Thread: Warholizing...

    Default Warholizing...

I was reminded today how easy it can be to give a photo that PopArt look made famous by Andy Warhol.

I quick revisit to the few steps required, confirms that Xara Xtreme 4 is quite adept at creating this 'great for print' popart look from your old and new photos.

Yes there are numerous PhotoShop plugins and even dedicated software you can buy to get similar results - but, once again - the tools are right here on hand with Xtreme

This was done for Workbook 09 on a similar subject.

Since Xtreme 4, however it is not as easy to do as it was in the mini-tutorial. Some features get better and others—get harder.

    Yep good stuff Gary http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/icons/icon14.gif
The workbook refers to Xara X and X1 I assume?
I mention this due to versions after X1 the not listing list the options explained in the workbook for the processes in the Xtreme 'Utilities' menu.

    For example:

Utilities > Bitmap Effects and Plug-ins > Bitmap Effects > Brightness and Contrast

    or

Bitmap Effects > Color Depth, the To Mono (Halftone)

    ------------

The PopArt examples in post#1 use similar processes with the tools found in Xtreme 4 yet with very fast results.

    1. Import a photo
    2. With the photo selected press the Photo tool icon (P)
    3. On the info bar, press the 'enhance photos' icon and increase the contrast and brightness until satisfied
    4. Still on the info bar, decrease the sharpness (blur) a little to smooth any jaggies

Additional steps in Version 4 I used:

    1. With the photo selected press the Live Effect Tool (Ctrl+F5) icon
    2. On the info bar press the 'New' button
    3. Select 'Color Filter' >> 'Hue' then adjust to liking

Other color filters can be used for futher treament if desired.

The entire process from photo to finish can be achieved very quickly.

This process also lends itself to a great tracing prep'.
For example the cat below could be quite easily hand traced to produced a completely vector result.

    Hi Steve,

Came across this fast way in the slice&dice thread
    http://talkgraphics.com/showthread.p...ewpost&t=34980
Take a picture>ctrl+k>set for one image contone colors dark and light
put to back>top image>coloreffects>threshold>apply stainedglass transparency

Yep Hans - another winner, just reconfirms again that Xara Xtreme 4 is quite adept (and fast) at creating a 'great for print' popart look from old and new photos.

Makes me want to go out and buy an A3 printer

Had a go with your hue approach and combined it with contoning colors
and different transparencies and the threshold and it came out like this.

This time using MEHDI's HSL Plus after the contrast/brightness/blur steps.
