Default Something is changing image's colour palette???

I've got an image that behaves quite strange even if a little bit different for different people. If I try to open this image in IE7 it simply doesn't show, for some other it changes colours, solid red becomes solid blue, black becomes grey etc. After importing this image to XaraXtremePro I exported it as an jpeg image, the new image is behaving normally e.g. it displays correctly. I have never seen this kind of oddity before. It's more a curiosity than enything else but if somebody here could see the reason for this strange behaviour it would be very educational for us non-pros.

Yes it is. It was sent to somebody to be placed on a website. I've just received the information that this image is created in Adobe Illustrator as part of CS3.

Just an idea, could the reason behind this behaviour be caused by the saving settings used by many Adobe users (SWOP profile)?
