combine images

I know I'm going to kick myself but the attached image is made up from two shapes.

I need to join them to have a coloured outline.

I've tried grouping and failed

I've tried grouping putting another image on top and using combine cut and every permutation I can think of.

So can someone just tell me?

Hi Ian,

First you need to ungroup then break shapes as they were joined at some point in your work flow.

Make the outline none. You will now see the two shapes are not actually touching each other.

Move one of the shapes so they touch. Then use the Combine Shapes > Add Shapes to make one shape.

Now you can apply any outline colour you want.
