This is my version of an old Clyde Puffer. These boats plied there trade around the Clyde and up the West Coast of Scotland calling in at all the remote islands and communities from the early 1900's to the 1980's. They got their name from the sound that they made because of the type of steam engine that they had with the funnel being used as the inlet and exhaust and the amount of smoke that they produced. They were all flat bottom boats so that they could be beached but were not very good sea boats as a result. The boat in the background is the "Waverly" and is the last sea going paddle steamer left in the world. I had to do a bit mapped copy of this boat as the file size was getting too large.

The drawing is meant to be on a very flat water day with a weak and hazy sky. The boat still looks very clean and model like? Your crit's on this would be welcomed.

I think the wave on the left side should extend to the edge of the image. Maybe wider as it gets away from the boat. Possibly some ripples where the cooling water pours back into the water. Again, some texture on the left side. I wouldn't think the water would be perfectly flat there. I like the reflection. Rich

I suspect it looks even better at full size.

I love what you have done with the clouds and perspective. It looks very convincing. And the bright reflection on the black paint works very well and makes the paint look very shiny and new.

    Very nice image.

Absolutely Fantastic. The adventures of Parra Handy. I would suggest you tone down the stays and have the smoke extending to the edge of the picture.

I think your work is very good. Egg's suggestions are valid but I still think your work is very good indeed!!

Nicely done - it reminds of the Picture Postcards made for many of the Merchant Navy Vessels.

I was one the Waverly once - many years ago and can remember being fascinated by the steam engine. They don't make 'em like they used to!

Quite agree with your comments and would have come back a lot sooner but I had a problem after defraging my computer. Could not open my drawing and had error message in Xara and the file was only 1k in size. Did a search and found it in a temp. folder with file description of "bak".

Hope you like the modified drawing where I took your advice with the rigging and water on the left hand side of the boat. Did not want to go to far as the drawing was on a flat water day so just did a plasma trans.

Thanks again for all of your advice and what a great modified drawing Egg.

The changes you made to the water do wonders for me. I couldn't pinpoint it before but I felt something was wrong. But now I see it was the feeling of movement that was missing for me. Now with the ripples you have given to the inside of the wake I can believe that the boat has moved through that water. They also help the boat to look like is sits in the water.

    Excellent!
