What a week! Both my pc's went belly up on the same day.
I took them to the repair shop (35km round trip) to find that
he's on holiday. No indication for how long. His family live in
the northern province of Galicia, and he's usually away for a month.
Semana Santa (Holy Week = Easter) is looming in 3 weeks, and
the Spanish go for it in a big way, so he probably won't be back
until the last week of the month.
So I've reinstalled windows a few times, and of course, reinstalling
lots of software means doing lots of reboots, and after a while
windows won't finish loading. It's a vicious circle.
The latest installation seems to be behaving itself at the moment.
I've installed Acronis True Image, and now hopefully when it all goes
pear-shaped again I'll be able to restore everything without having to
do all the software installs. As I have 2 hard drives in the pc, I have
put windows and software on C: and all data on D:.
Should save a lot of time, too.
Being paranoid, I also have my D: drive backed up externally, and
copies of the True Image on the external drive and the D: drive as
well as in a secure zone on the C: drive.
Running chkdsk didn't find any hard drive errors, so I'm forced into
waiting for the repairman's return to get the memory, cpu
etc. checked out.
What I don't understand is that windows will load (for a while)
after it has been reinstalled.
Computers, eh? Can't kill 'em, can't live without them, to paraphrase a
remark I've heard from time to time usually referring to women!
Saludos,
Bob.
ps: Blow me down, I press the submit button and the tg server
appears to be down! Other websites load ok.
