And here is a quick and dirty image based upon my previous post.

I exported both letters as a transparent PNG file.

Imported the two letters into Xtreme and sliced the file into two sections, the L and the G.

I overlapped the two letter forms.

I cloned the G, placed a small circle over the area where the two letters overlap, and used Combine Shapes > Intersect Shapes to mask just the area inside the circle.

With some serious forethought, and a comprehensive grip of Xara's tools, you might be able to achieve what you are looking for entirely within Xara. Here's a start.

David's spot on. It's easier just to do it in XXP.

It looks good when used as a texture in X3D provided you don't swing it to far.

This was completed in X3D using Swing2 animation (it is not quite finished but I am bored with it now).
The bottom image shows more as to how it was created.
I used a total of 6 shapes and gave them different angles to ensure that they where positioned above or below another.

Do this in XX would be far easier.

WOW, I appreciate all of the input and it is as I suspected. Something beyond the capabilities of Xara 3D and my own 3D know how. I have Champagne vision with a Spanada learning curve.

Thanks for all of the help, but I don't want to take up more of your time since I do not have the knowledge yet in a more advanced 3D program. However, it has motivated me to did in and to increase that learning curve.

    Thanks guys!

Here is still another approach that is fairly straight forward. I am also including an image that I did for another thread where we interweaved a vine through 3D text using the same process.

Very effective. I suddenly realised I was reading a five year old thread!

Yes, you certainly taught me a good trick there. Is not 100% necessary but as you pointed out when you start erasing the background copy gives you a lot more freedom/accuracy.
