Yes Keith thanks for jogging my memory - the .ini file fix [post#2] works in pro [rather than a registry fix] - had just not got round to trying it
Teach me not to re-read the thread

Many thanks to Frans [itsfransie] for posting the fix

No need to use the shortcut utility for this it would seem ...

    Footnote:

I just used the Xtreme Pro Shortcuts utility to assign ctrl-9 to convert line to shape.

Having saved this I found that it had also overwritten the spacebar selector tool setting so that it would no longer toggle - so I had to manually edit the .ini file again to restore this...

It has nothing to do with the registry though. There should be a file called "hotkeys.ini" in the directory "c:\\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Xara\XaraXtreme3.2\"

In this file, the fifth line from the end should read:
    HotKey 0x20 "SPACE" "ToolSwitch_Selector"

Note that some of these directories may be hidden. If so, start Explorer, go to the Extra menu and click Options, and in the tab called 'View' or 'Display' (don't know what it's called in English) check that hidden files and system files are displayed.

Followed the instructions re hotkeys.ini. Made the "Space" change but Vista won't let me save/replace this file?

    Suggestions?

    Thanks!

Cary try running Notepad as an Administrator. Use Notepad to open the ini file to make the changes.

I turned off the User Account Control on my Vista system long ago. That is what prevents changes to the registry and system files (including ini files).
