Re: What is your day job?
-Started working as a portrait & caricature artist at Busch Gardens -Williamsburg years ago. Didn't have Xara then....
-Worked at Newport News Shipbuilding for 10yrs, the only shipyard in the US that makes Aircraft Carriers. I was a technical illustrator at the time, eventually getting in to IBM CAD. Drawing everything from Schematics to IPB's. I did a couple submarine paintings, which was the hi-light of my time there. Funny, but one of the paintings was on the NNSB homepage has a credit going to the photographer.... no respect!
-Graphic artist for an interactive Training Software developer. I found Xara during this period which made most of our other software obsolete. This was during the 386-486 phase of the PC evolution. For 10 years I created everything from interface designs to full blown Illustrations or Photo composites. Of course, PC's evolved as did Xara.
-Currently working as the Art Director for a Textile & Print company. Fun work, fast deadlines & generally quick turnarounds. This use to be a Corel shop, but not anymore... thanks to Xara & my hard headedness!
Sometimes we do custom artwork, other times working with customer art, which is more or less good & or bad at times (applies to my art too-usu dependant on time constraints). The worst part of this job is dealing with all Illustrator "mainstream brainwashing". Since we have Illustrator 10, it is often difficult getting art opened. Woops, kind of went on a tangent with AI.
25+ years as an artist, still biking strong & staying stress free... Whenever possible...
