Live Effects and Brushes can corrupt documents. Newer releases of Xtreme support Live Effects/Brushes, but older ones don't - so when you have a faulty document sometimes opening it with an older version of Xtreme will strip out the fault and leave you with the rest. You also sometimes get further if you *import* a file rather than *open* it.
Obviously I don't know what is missing because the file is corrupt and it won't open, but attached is what is visible from your document when opened in Xara X¹ (Xtreme 2.0's predecessor).
Rescued or not, take the gentle hint from the Gods and invest in some automatic backup software
Daniel that is very clever using an older version to strip out a Live Effects error.

Curious about the word 'SPURIOUS' I googled 'define: spurious'
Definitions of Spurious on the Web:
specious: plausible but false; "a specious claim"; "spurious inferences"
bastardly: born out of wedlock; "the dominions of both rulers passed away to their spurious or doubtful offspring"- E.A.Freeman
inauthentic: intended to deceive; "a spurious work of art"

Spurious signals are any outputs in the spectrum of a source (VCO) that are neither part of the carrier, not its harmonic and they may be discreet or bands of frequencies. Modco VCO'S do not contain any spurious outputs.
