Things are difficult only when you're starting to learn it... then it becomes an obsession and quitting becomes the difficult part...
Actually, animating 3d for gif animations are easier for me because I am actually creating only a limited amount of keyframes. So I could cheat with the poses and if I can't get something right in 3d, I could edit the pic in 2d and be done with it... It's not like I'm creating full featured movie, after all.

Haha, Bob's cardboard box robot reminded me of a chapter from a book I've read long ago when I was a kid. "Henry and the Paper Route"? I think. Henry made a cardboard robot suit to keep his friend Beezus' little sister Ramona out of his hair...
Hans, that one reminds me of Pixar's lamp.
