two critical errors in one day

I'm in love with Xara as a program. I've gotten more drawing done in the last four days than I can get done in a week before.

However....

Two of my most critical drawings cannot now be accessed. Xara is giving me a red X "spurious internal error" message. It will preview the work, so I know it is there, but xara will not open the files. Once I get as must be something I did, but this makes 3 times total since I started using xara.

I can't work for 6 hours on a drawing only to never get it open again...

Any help would be nice.

Real Sorry to hear that - it does happen, guess its happened to most if not all of us at some time or other

If the file is ok to post up someone may be able to open it
theres always this utility - runs in command mode not windows GUI

I know its after the event but I tend to save not only the workfile, but duplicate copies at intervals throughout the process as extra backup.
This is standard practice for me, so I'll end up with workfile.xar and workfiles_A through F as stages along the way say, after 6 hours.
I do this with all graphics programs that don't do it automatically themselves.

You can do automatic backups with Xara XXTune from the XaraXone shareware pages:

Even if you don't use this then Handrawns suggestion that you make regular duplicates is the way to go as the problem you are suffering does happen from time to time.

Never used xxtune - heard good reports of it though - to be honest making my own duplicate baks has been so ingrained into my workflow that I'd do it regardless

I used the ExpandXar.exe available from the XaraXone and the Xara Support site. It is a command line utility.

Thanks, I'll work that direction now. Not a bad looking vehicle for someone less than a week out of MSpaint even if I do say so
