    Default Bit map texturing technique?

as a result of a recent disc catastrophe, I lost much previous work, including the method for using grey scale transparency as a bit map fill to produce texturing in an image.

    Ex: http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/7421/tempyg0.th.png
    (click for detail)

I believe i found the technique on the Xara Zone, but have been unable to find it again. The tute used it to texturize an extruded Text Char.

    any help?

    geo.

    GeoBen

I can't remember what tutorial it is but it looks like a bumpmap technique to me. Try searching using "bumpmap"

    No, M. Bramnill, but thanks.

it was a pre-Xtreme tute, so no bumpmaps.

It was the same technique done manually in Xara X, which I am still using.

I fear it may have been removed in light of the availablility of bumpmaps. Which would be a pity, as, done manually it provided the basis for a number of other texturing methods (such as the flat color variations found in water colors, when traced).

i will have to try to remember, i suppose.

    thanks again,
    geo.

no.... though i DID see all those and rather liked them.

i remember now. A little niggle in the back of the brain when i woke today. And... i remembered. Sean Sewards Emboss greyscale on a Fractal fill used as a bit map fill. details are still trickling in. I will play with it til i get it all back.

thanks loads for the attention... I know how busy you must be.

    forsooth.

    Sean Sewards Greyscale emboss....

random fill (ie: fractal cloud) a shape, convert to bitmap, emboss, apply 'lighten' transparancy place over a colored shape of same size. convert to bitmap.

and use as a bit map fill.

doing multiple like colored versions will produce layered texures much like those in bumpmaps.

    Probably even better than bumpmaps

    Glad you found the tutorial.
