I was fooling around and did a little picture of Mars that I though turned out good. I realized I did not know how to do a concave bevel like for a crater, volcano, or bowl. Is this possible? If so, what might be the best way to do the tapered rim of the crater?

Gary, this might make a very educational tutorial if you have not already done something similar.

you created an O-shape, gave it the same fill as the planet, then applied a chiseled bevel or something like that?

I also added a floor shadow by flipping the image as you can only apply a floor shadow going upwards.

That looks sharp Gary, and thank you, but it's missing the bowl shape inside the rim. Is there not a concave bevel?

Do a bevel for the rim and then do a rounded bevel on an elliptical shape for the concave part and reverse the light source arrow to make it appear recessed instead of raised.

This was a bit more fooling around. I will try Gary's suggestion too.

Something I was trying to see if I could simulate water ripples. This is a series of concetric rings that I varied the lightness. Rich

is important to Dave. I notice you craters are not aligned properly with the curvature of the planet. Makes it look a bit strange to me!

    Just an observation! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
