Have a look at guest 05 tutorial in the zone by John Clemments. He demonstrates isometric cylinders and a small bit on rendering these cylinders.

You could also try "isocalc.com" and download trial version of IsoCalc3 but I think it is a bit over priced for what you get. Included in the downloaded programme are good help files which demonstrate the how to factors of constructing cylinders in 3D in many views not just isometric which can be easily adapted for Xara X.

    Nicole,

Here's how I go about creating cylinders. For shading purposes a cylinder is ultimately a rectangular shape combined with an ellipse with a seperate ellipse on the nearest face. This gives you two objects which you can fill independently to give the desired effect.

I've attached the xar file for you to see.

Isocalc is a set of scripts for CorelDraw so you can't use it in Xara.

Nicole, you may find some basic tutorials/info at IsoCalc.com online which may give you some ideas. A lot of the info in my guest tutorial use bit-n-pieces of things I learned from using Isocalc.

I fooled around in xara a bit to try to figure it out. this is what i came up with

all i did was create a rectangle, attach two circles at either end apply eclipse fill, then duplicate it and do two black liniar transperancies over the eclipse fill going towards the center, and then duplicate the eclipse fill and put it on top with a flat transperancy and added a little feathering. it isnt perfect but i think i got it accomplished

As Albacore wisely pointed out above -- check out John Clement's guest tutorial at Gary's XaraXone.Com website. John is the master of xara piping. With his helpful tips you'll very quickly be drawing the most beautiful cylinders!

I know that Nicole rarely follows any links to information to which we direct her
