I remember someone saying you could recover
the file. can someone help.
I looked but can't find the thread.
Thanks.
Brian.

Surely someone will come to the rescue soon here with the full details...but I think I remember someone saying to look for a .bak file with the similar name to the lost file--perhaps it is in the temp files????

P.S. Were you using brushes? This happened to me when I used them....

Just been into Windows Temp can't
find it. Never mind, it will make me
save more often. just got engrossed and
forgot.
Thanks again.
Brian.
Hi Brian,
Sorry about your lost file. To have Xara X create a backup file when you save, check this thread for the registry entry to edit.

I did have a problem where XaraX would quit on me when I tried a 'subtract shapes' function. After a few attempts and having to re-start the program I found that the file had become corrupt.
The only way I was saved, was to use my 'Norton Protected Files' program which comes with 'systemworks'. In there I was able to go find a previously saved version of the file.
It is pretty rare that XaraX gives me trouble but having a backup plan always helps.
You could do a 'file search' from your windows start bar. Maybe that will find a backup.
Hope this helps

go to "find" then type NAME.BAK
Hopefully it will appear somewhere, but the longer you wate, the more likely it is to be replaced

Best way to search for a missing file:
Go to Start button, then Find.
Enter *Filename* (asterisks on both sides, but do NOT include the extension) Example dog.xar would be *dog*.
Choose all hard drives, if you have partitions or more than one drive. (and you can search floppies and CD's also)
Click Search.
That will find all instances with that name, regardless of extension.
NOTE: Agent Ransack is a freeware utility that allows UNIX-type seaches in a Windows environment. It's a great search tool! One doesn't have to know UNIX to use it, as it is made Windows-user-friendly.
