Hey, I just had a look at the latest list of supported file formats in XnView - and now it can read XAR files! Great
I'm off to update ...

All kinds of great stuff here! Thank you - all!

Irfanview did the job for me...!

And now I see the comment from Britta about XnView and Xara files - I guess I'm off to give that a go too!

Thanks again for taking time to reply!

when I said: xnView can 'read' XAR files - that means it produces a bitmap thumbnail from the XAR file. Just checked it and it works great; very useful if you have folders with many Xara files that you want to survey quickly.

Photoshop does this too. You can record an action, which (like a macro) is a set of image manipulations. Then you can play this action back on a whole folder full of images. You can set it so that the action affects the actual images in the folder -- or you can tell Photoshop to make a copy of each image and run the action on the copy.

And you can download thousands of free actions from the web.

My pick of the crop is Irfanview. It's free and it's packed with all sorts of image quick fixes including batch conversion of file names and file types. It's a dream come true. It's my default viewer as well. Love it!!
