3d globe

hey. does anyone know how to make a transparent 3d spinning globe in 3dsmax? i tried using a sphere with a transparent flat world map as a material 'skin' type thing on the sphere, but the transparent part only comes in white. i want to make one like on the CBS Evening News intro.

Try using an alpha map.What you do is put the transparent material on the globe first,then you make an alpha map,and you make the continents white and the area you want to be transparent black.In a new material put an image map of the Earth,then also add your alpha map as well and voila it should be what you are looking for.I dont use Max so it might be best if you go through your manual quite thoroughly
