    Default Shiny area creation

This is something that I have alot of trouble with when I'm creating images. I am not sure how to make spectral shine on some surfaces. I'd like to know how many different and better ways there are to do this.

The exampe I was trying to recreate was paint dollop in an Ace Hardware advert. Just trying to see if I could do it like they showed. I couldn't. Can you? I threw the example out before I could show you so you'll have to wing it.
I did not try a blend but would like to see if it could be done. Below is what I've made. The 3 layer example comes closest to what the paint dollop looked like but the white area is just a bit too soft looking. Can you show me a way to crispen it up?

Edit: I should mention that the 3 layer example has a bit too much white showing as well. The light source should be more like on the bevel, even a little less.
