I don't speak English, but french (thank you Google translator), but Xara is above that! )
I like Tom's fire tutorial. However, I prefer not using any bitmap conversions of vector art. I use the FEATHERING tool quite heavily instead.
I prefer the vector style because I can tweaktweaktweaktweak... an make the colors very bright!
Here's a sample of a car I drew using feathering only:
And here's a slightly different version of the car. It's post-processed, with the some LIQUIFY filters applied to the flames in Adobe Photoshop.

Awe.... Just you version of another tut. and I thought you had thought up a new way...
Nice flames on your cars there, vectorsedge.
Nice car, especially with the P-shopped flames! My 5-year-old will love this picture - he's into Hot Wheels (and anything else with wheels and an engine).

Dominique,
Very beautiful animated gif ... FABULOUS ... although I think the cat has his eye on your pie
Jared,
Cool car ... love the fluid movement.
Not everything we do is serious
Thought I'd let you see what I was up to this weekend. This is the midway point for a visualization project for a architect I work with. I still have a bit more work to do on the house, then it will be set into a realistic environment. I've not done one of these before so it's been a learning experience, but there seems to be some promise in the technique, especially considering the easy color changes I can make to the structure without reworking the illustration.
