    Hi all.

    First project with Xara.

Just starting a project with Xara X to produce a logo using the word ult1mate.
The industry is ice manufacture, so I thought of using a "ice fill", is there such a fill available ?
Secondly, what views of using a gold type of fill as gold is the ultimate or is this a bit naff.
I'd like to keep it modern but tasteful, any suggestions, tutorials, examples would be extremely welcome.

Good to have you with us Webson.

Not sure about the ice fill, there is a snow fill in the Fill Gallery (the fills are on the Xara X CD) There are a few gold and chrome mini-tutorials in the Tips and Tricks Conference

I've been out there in Google.com land and have found an ice tutorial. It is for a 3D application but it gives you an idea of what ice should look like.

    Ice Cube Tutorial

Basically, ice is transparent, it has depth and reflects everything. It is like a square lens.

Here's an ice fill I found at a site offering their textures free of charge or obligation. I found it by searching at Google on the words "texture download free". (It's astounding how much of this sort of stuff you can find out in cyberspace!) As you probably know, you can just right click on this image and select something like "save image..." (wording varies according to browser).

Ihope you find it useful. And welcome to the Xara forum, by the way. I'm also a new arrival here.

Can you post the URL where you found the Ice texture. One can never have enough textures.

Glen - thanks for the ice texture. I think it works very well when applied as a bitmap transparency.

I did not record the URL of the site at which I found the above texture; but I will try to find it again. In the meantime, I have the URL of a site that I DID record, which has some great textures. All they ask is that you include a link to their site if you use their stuff on the web.

    The address is:
    http://www.absolutecross.com/textures.htm

. . . the source of the ice texture:

    http://www.i-tex.de/

Gary, I have to thank you for sending me back to find the ice texture. It made me read the source site's information more carefully than I had before. There is no "terms of use" page -- nor even a paragraph -- to be found anywhere on the site, so I had assumed the textures were available free of any obligation; and, technically, I still think they are. However, since the textures at this site are given as examples of what can be produced by the software created by owner of the site, and considering that the the site's purpose is to promote the software, I think it would be only fair if I were to include a link to his site any time I post one of his textures. His software is called "Infinity Textures". The latest version costs $69 US, and there are two older versions he is distributing as freeware. It looks like a uniquely excellent tool.

While I was searching for the above site, I also came across these other sources of freeware textures:

    http://studio-on-the.net/pekka/vst_textures.html

    http://www.grsites.com/textures/

    http://www.toastermedia.com/chunkygraphics/index.html

    http://www.creativemadness.com/graphics/backgrounds/

    http://www.nepthys.com/textures/

Thanks again Gary, for keeping me on the straight and narrow.

Nice work! Those letters look good enough to put in a (soft) drink!
