Question PSP X New Image specifications

    Hiyaz

Just curious when you create a NEW Image, what is your RESOLUTION set to and your COLOR DEPTH?

Mine are: RESOLUTION set to 100.000 and COLOR DEPTH: set to RGB - 16 bits/channel

Just trying to figure out a way to avoid the harshness when creating in X and animating in AS.. If I use Vers 8 to create my designs, the harshness is not as visible when animating it in AS.

    Thanks much!

I have just left mine set to the default which I believe the Res is 200 and RGB - 8bit. I mostly use it for web graphics so when I save them I usually reduce the quality for size. Don't do animations, so I am not sure what you mean about the harshness. Sorry.

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond Joe. I'm gonna change mine to what you have to see what difference it will make when it comes to clarity of animated graphics.

If the image is going to be displayed on-screen only, leave it at 72 dpi. For printing, use 300 dpi.

It's already been said but I'll expand on it a little. Monitors can only display 72 PPI so anything higher than that is making a bigger file and taking more space than necessary. Setting it at 300 is ok for printers but you have to keep in mind that PPI and DPI aren't the same thing. PPI only affects screen viewing and when you make a new document its the PPI that you're setting. You set DPI when you print.

72dpi/ppi is an old standard - most these days seem to be 96ppi

If my old memory serves me correctly, the original Mac monitors from the early 1980's were 72 ppi. By the early 1990's they joined the rest of the computer world by using 96 ppi. Adobe and Corel may not have noted that change because they continue to use 72 ppi.

Modern monitors display at around 96 ppi but you the creator of images have no control over what setting or screen size the viewer will have. But then a screen or monitor takes no notice of Resolution in an image (that's only a scaling factor for printers ) all it sees are pixels How many wide by how many high. Hence the scrolling for images larger then the screen Res
