The plane is very similar to the ME163 Comet (with a different propulsion method, the wings are enlarged to a familiar v-wing shape) which did go into limited production and was the fastest aircraft in service during WW2. The Comet had a number of challenging issues - dangerous on take-off, dangerous on landing, it's high speed meant shooting at allied planes was a problem ( it didn't take long for the plane to cover the range of the guns, so little time to aim accurately).
The Germans were superb engineers. Still are.
