Xara is conflicted.

It has a great vector drawing tool but has hobbled itself to a very poor Desk Top Publishing (DTP) paradigm as a restrictive Web authoring approach.
Everything has been pixel positioned but HTML5 and CSS3 changes have made dynamic websites the thing people aim for.
Xara has failed to introduce DTP tables and its solutions around Supersites and Responsive sites, using Variants, are crippling.
There is no linking to a backend database, which could be file-driven (XML, JSON) or MySQL.
Placeholders can only go so far and the pinnacle of Content Management Systems (CMS) yet to be achieved is a simple Blog or eCommerce Cart.

Colour management, Font management, page numbering are all deficient.

By all means hive off web design to Software as a Service if this means we have a rounded DTP and graphics product that have equal development effort afforded it.
