    Default Layers

Hi everyone, I'm using Pro X11 and I can't seem to find out in the help section how to merge layers. I finished a practice drawing and used 3 layers. A base, 1 for lines and 1 for color. Now that I finished, I want it all on 1 layer and I can't find a way to do that. I tried to "select all" then cut, and paste in place, on one of the layers. Then delete the other layers but the layers come back! Any suggestions? Or maybe point me to a tutorial or the right help area I would appreciate it. Thanks a bunch. Ken

Ken, have a look at Utility > options... > Page Size > Document.
Untick "Same layers on all pages in document".

    Welcome to TalkGraphics

I moved this into the Xara Graphics Chat

You are thinking in terms of Photoshop layers. There is no flatten.

In the Page & Layers Gallery, select your middle layer and click the S to isolate just the content on that layer. Press Ctrl A to select all and copy or cut the content to the clipboard.

Turn off the S and select Layer 1.

From the Edit menu select Paste > Paste in Place. The pastes the contents from the middle layer on top of the main layer.

Repeat this for the top most layer.

Click the eye icon next to the two top layers to make them invisible. If everything is in place then you can delete the top two layers.

Or a much simpler way Ctrl+A to select all then Ctrl +G to group all items will be grouped together on the top layer. at this point you can if you wish click and drag your grouped drawing in the page and layer gallery to place it on Layer 1.

Great advice above, but there's usually no point in merging layers. Why do you want to do it?

I wish I had a real technical reason for it but I don't. It's just my personal preference or idiosyncrasies, that's all.

Hello Mr. Priester, Thank you for your solution I'll give it a try. Just finished one of your tutorials from 2011. It's the World Clock. I know it's not exactly like yours but I did the best I could.

    That's OK, your choice.

It makes no difference to the end result and makes life more difficult if you choose to revise your design at a later time.

    Nice work!
