Need some help, please

Spent quite a few hours creating a graphic and now when I export it from Xara Extreme 5 I cannot reopen the exported .eps or .ai. I get an Error detected in EPS file at line.... Tried exporting as .ai and still cannot open. And cannot export as pdf at all. Comes out blank!

Any ideas? I often have trouble opening .eps files I get from Fotolia, but have never had trouble opening one I created!


Just added the .XAR file, as well. Maybe someone else can spot the issue? I am stumped.

The eps imports fine into XDP X11. I no longer have older versions on the computer.

It does, however, import way off the page.



I used ctrl+a to select all and drag fully into view.

I assume the XAR file opens fine for you?

Yes, it does. I wonder if I should center it on the white "work area"? I wanted to see it and client wanted lettering in white (and presumably he is not sure how to change color)

But, you helped! It was the fact it was off to the side that the pdf was not capturing it. I just saved as pdf and it worked (and client has often asked for them as pdfs, so this is acceptable) Just wish I knew what was happening for future reference in saving as .ai or .eps.... but at least I have something to send to the client

I would not use a web document for the design--those layer names, which are confusing to anyone that doesn't do web stuff in Xara make it into the AI/EPS file.

I would send the client a screen shot like so (though closer in):



Adding a light gray background like the above works for image exports, screen shots and PDFs when a client wants to see the work. And I would keep it on the page when exporting. At least for PDFs and AI/EPS files. That way it will open in AI on an artboard (page) in Illy.

I don't know why it will not import into your version without an error. Likely something that got fixed at some point as it doesn't happen now in a later version. Illustrator opened your original EPS file fine.
