I tried this approach a while back but here (windows 10 firefox) the centre of the page is not interactive i.e. you cannot drag/pan click to zoom etc in the center, this may just be the overlaid png in the center.

Very nice Acorn. Cloud, if the center of the screen is content does it make any difference if the center of the map is not interactive?

@Cloud, anything on a layer or Page background will, necessarily block direct action with anything underneath.
You can minimise the effect by having a narrow page width and removing clip to edges.
It makes for interesting site page designs.
