    first thing to try is this:

    To reset your user settings to the factory default, hold down the Shift key while starting the application. A prompt will appear asking you to confirm that you want to restore the default settings. Click Yes. Please note that your customized user settings will be lost as a result
    note the bit about customisations

    Thanks)) I fixed it. I did as you said but that didn't change anything. I checked my monitor display settings. I recently replaced my monitor and the Painter 9.1 didn't like the setting I had.

    glad you got it sorted - monitor and graphics card would have been the next up to look at sure

    painter 9 is pretty old now to be running on modern systems

    the new painter 2015 is tempting me sorely to upgrade
