Kane asked me to help get his At Speed poster image Click here to see the image

He had tried to export the image to EPS with no luck. (The image is 36" x 24" and contains 9000+ objects.

I tried running my computer all night long and got to 98% export then an error message A Fatal Problem Occured in Exporting.

Last night I tried printing to PDF.

My computer ran out of memory about 50% done. (Pentium 4 512K RAM -- 80GB hard drive)

Any suggestions how Kane can get his image to the printer?

Well, the old way it used to be done in Corel version 1 or version 2 days where there was a limit in the number of nodes used in a file was to divide the drawing into two or three segments (or overlapping segments)and save each as a separate file.

With Xara you could do something similar, export each file, then stitch the resulting bitmaps back together in a bitmap program.

I have sent the file (about 650K) to Xara who has agreed to try to find a solution.

I just spoke to Kane and he said the printer was able to print the file and he just saw a proof of the poster.

He will try to find out what they did to get the file to print and will post here when he does.

I heard from Kane that his image got printed.

He turned me onto the tech person who output the image (36 x 24" - over 9000 objects) and here is how she explained how she did it.

    beat me yet!.

Yes, I loaded the software onto my system, but with an image so large,
everytime I tried to write postscript from the file, it choked my system.

The first thing I tried was converting the file to a bitmap. That worked
fine, but I was concerned about data loss on a limited edition print.

I them selected all and exported the file as a tiff at 600 ppi. I then
needed to convert to CMYK in photoshop, placed it in Quark and ripped a
    postscript file.

The image was great, and worked very well on press.

By the way, this was not a fast process, missed another dinner at home!
