Default Cookie Cutter Action does not include Shadow or Novelty Line Shapes

    I can't see a method for this.

I have a shape that I have created with a shadow, a Novelty line, or even a blend, bevel, contour or envelope.
If I place it on top of a larger box and Combine Shape > Slice Shapes, I lose the decorative edging.
Using the 3D Tool loses the edging.
I've tried creating a bitmap copy but on slicing you get a rectangular cut out.

I would be grateful for any pointers?

I'm not sure I completely understand what you're trying to do.
But, have you tried to convert the line to shape, before you slice shapes?

Use an opacity mask for this here is a video I did once showing how to use opacity masks to create decorative edging effects. This video was created in Designer Pro X (version 8) but it works in any version that has the opacity mask feature (version 6 and up AFAIK)

Rik, I just want to punch out a shape that includes the total outline of the shape.
Converting the line to editable object means you have to first Break at Points and the Novelty Shapes vanish as well as the interior of the shape.

Thank you Francis, the method I think I can use is about 8 minutes in.
I take my Shape and make line and fill Black; Ctrl-X and then right click Paste > Paste Opacity mask.
Until just, what I didn't realise it that you can then select the Opacity Mask in the Page and Layer Gallery and use the cursor keys to reposition it.

What happens if you just group all the objects first? Then do your punching out.

Can you give us an example of what you're trying to do?
    A sample image etc...

The attached file show how using the Opacity mask works for what I wanted: Opacity Mask.xar

    Thank you angelize.

    Not at all.
    The process is quite simple;

[1] Ctlr+C the green circle with it's footprint line
[2] Shift_Ctrl+S to convert the line to shapes
    [3] Shift+Ctrl+V to 'paste-in-place'
    [4] Set line to 'None'
[5] Group footprint shapes to green circle
[6] Select group and rectangle and press Ctr+2 to 'punch out'

Significantly faster to actually do than to type the few steps here

Using the Opacity Mask is quite different, check the outline view to see what I mean.
    OM top, proper subtracting below.

@ Acorn: You are quite welcome

As Steve has shown the Opacity Mask process does work differently but it's one of the wonderful things about Xara there are always different methods of doing things.
