Hybrid View

    Default Re: Gaussian Blur Question

Rik, before your reply I was not using clipview. I was adding the Gaussian blur effect to the 4px height rectangle to add depth to my graphic. The goal is to add a shadow effect to the graphic using this technique because the shadow tool does not allow me to add a really dark shadow. Again, I want to add depth to my graphic. If there is a better way to do this please share it.

    Thanks,
    Steve

set the shadow tool transparency all the way to the left and you have solid black

That works but using the shadow tool increases the width of the graphic also. I will stick with clipview. It does not give me exactly what I want but it's as close as I can get for now. Thanks

if you place an object eg a rectangle over the top of your shape with drop shadow and give that object a 99% transparency when you export that 99% transparent object it exports everything behind it
If someone tried to make me dig my own grave I would say No.

To answer the question about Gary's suggestion: with your rectangle selected go to your FX/live effects and select enhance at the top of the list and a panel will popup that will allow you to apply blur/sharpening etc to your vector shape. But you will still need to apply a clipview to the rectangles to get the effect you want.

For anyone who might need it here are the steps to do the clipview starting after the top shape is blurred using which ever method you prefer.

    1. clone the bottom rectangle (the large red one) and with the selector tool pull the top up until it completely covers the blurred thinner rectangle
    2. remove the colour from the cloned rectangle by clicking the crosshatch icon on the colourline (make sure to keep the now transparent clone selected)
    3. Ctrl+B to send to the back (keep the clone selected)
    4. tap Q to apply the clip view.

    Hi Angelize,

I knew it was simple but didn't know Gary was referring to the live effects tool. Thanks for the suggestion and steps for clipview.
