Can't Upload New Site

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum so all everyone is well. Need some help. I've designed a website using Web Designer 9 Premium and have published to the 1and1 hosting space using the FTP facility within Xara. The issues I have is if I go to the site www.savourjamaica.com the old site still comes up. Its not until I type www.savourjamaica.com/index.htm when I see my new design. The home page in my new design is named 'index'. How do I rectify?

index.html is the default file at your host, so your old site is loading first. (http://www.savourjamaica.com/index.html)
In Xara Web Designer, rename your index page to index.html like this:


Then publish and it should overwrite your old one.

Thanks for the tip. That hasn't seemed to work though. Anything else?

That should have worked. Can't think of any reason why not.
Obviously you are uploading to the correct address for http://www.savourjamaica.com/index.htm to work.
Best bet is to use an FTP program like Filezilla and remove your old site first.

Might it be that the old site is still there, or rather the old index.html page, as it seems that is taking priority over a .htm page. If you use filezilla as steve suggests you should be able to see that the old site is still there.

Thanks guys. I downloaded the Filezilla programme and connected to the site and deleted all the files that were there. There is now no site there. I then uploaded the new site via Xara again and I can see it uploaded in Filezilla, there's nothing on the URL site itself. I'm getting this:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

It must have worked - there's a site there now.
