logging downloads

Hi apologies in advance if this has been asked and answered before but could find nothing on the site yet.

I have a site where I want to allow people to download excel and pdf files from the site. No problem there but what I would like to do is have a record of how many times each file is downloaded. Is there a bit of code I can incorporate into Xara WD to do this even if it is a readout on the site next to the item to be downloaded.

Thanks Steve it looks like it's just what I need for what I am producing and fairly straight forward for a beginner like me.

you can also achieve this with google analytics, as that displays the number of times a link has been clicked.
