    Default London tube map

There was an interesting article in the LA TImes today about the design of the tube map.

I wondered about that, but they offered the link, so I thought it might work.
Thanks Sledger for finding a better link.

Only an electrical engineer could come up with this. It is a near perfect idea and works brilliantly; so much so that our local public transport uses the same method for it's maps and I used the same method for a client to create a delivery map for his local courier business. I am surprised that back in 1930 they accepted the design but when you think about it the art deco movement was very popular in the 1930sl with it's clean geometric formsl so it makes sense that they would go for it, had it been the victorians I'm sure they would have had a perfect scale, highly detailed map. The design is truly of it's time.
