    If I apply the slice first, then apply feathering, it will still feather along the sliced joint line.

    What if you make a copy and use clipview on both?

    Using the method I suggested in post #2 and then slicing the result in two does not result in the 'disturbing' effect you mention if you first 'lock' the effect..

    (Note: The LE 'lock' icon does not change to a 'locked' lock graphic, it only depresses, perhaps this is an oversight by Xara?)
