    you will never get a true embossed or engraved effect on a two dimensional surface such as a screen

    so the effect is simulated by means of 'light and shadow'

    it is quite possible to end up with an effect that one person sees 'raised' and another 'engraved' - it all takes practice

    heres a good tutorial - it is not producing what you want, but it is showing how to use the tools

    I'll have a look at the video. Thank you so much.

    I think the term I am looking for is letterpress. I found a tutorial for photoshop here - http://tutcandy.com/2009/04/letterpr...s-text-effect/ - but am trying to convert the technique to xara pgd7.

    Thank you for the insite into how to use the bevel properly. Just a matter of knowing the tool - type of bevel possible (flat, rounded, etc.) / contrast etc. and what it can do.

    I think I like the floating green as opposed to the engraved green. The white on gray looks sharp. Did I do it right?
