ID:	85774HI out there, can anyone tell me please if there is a way of inserting a rod through the centre of a ring. The only way I can see of doing it is to have two rods, one over the top of the other with fade transparency on it and the ring between the two. This works OK until you want to have the ring in another colour to the rod then all the secrets are revealed and the illusion is broken.

    Hello,

If the Rod is moving through the Ring, you should split the ring instead...

Beautiful example James. That is what I was thinking too.

Never give up. You will never fail, but you may find a lot of ways that don't work.

    Thanks, Larry

Other than splitting the non-moving object, I can't think of any way to do this.

To Xara, OBJECTS are either on top or below... in order to make part above and part below, the only way seems to turn one object into two.

Actually, it is possible to create the illusion (at least in XDP7) by using two rods instead of one:

If you are using extrusions it is possible to do this using opacity masks and your extrusions remain as extrusions Here is an example one extruded ring and one extruded cylinder.

I am just amazed on the solutions, but just like as an outsider viewer of the topic :-) I also learnt from it
