now it needs to be said that the above is not necessarily a useful way of looking at things for designing websites - just graphics

Well, I could get into the whole "it's a vector engine so it doesn't work that way" argument... And it IS an argument because we're dealing with a slightly hybrid engine. Needless to say, I simply wondered if there was an option to "resize all imported images to X size". There is not, I wondered if there was clarification from "import large images", but sounds like its just dealing with very very very high resolution images.

Its not a hybrid UI - it just happens to admit more than one kind of object to the club, and in actual fact, since around ver 4, there are no bitmaps on the UI at all as such - what you call a bitmap or image is a vector container with a system level bitmap fill

    you can bespoke this yourself:

1] set up a vector rectangle [no outline] as your bespoke container at the correct size, which you can reserve as a 'template'

2] import your bitmap at whatever large size it arrives in at and then open the bitmap gallery

3] select both your vector rectangle and the bitmap in the gallery and click on the gallery 'fill' button

now this may or may not suit you better than entering figures every time, i don't know......

darn I am tired - I meant to say that having understood the above, there is a quick way to do it - just drag your bitmap from windows explorer into xara directly onto your vector rectangle holding down the shift key as you drag [the vector rectangle does does not need to be selected in this case]

AHA... I failed to define the issue I'm having. Yes, when I drag images in, it will do this properly....

If I PASTE from say another program, it will not import as such.

    Thaaaat's what I've been struggling with! :P

    such is life

EDIT: not all programs copy and paste between each other - they don't all work the same way

perhaps you could ask in dear xara that a new 'paste as fill' option be added ?

EDIT: then you could paste directly into the vector shape from those programs where it does work
