    I'll give it a try Frances. I've worked with the spin-method before, but this glass was modeled in Blender starting with a circle and building upwards. I assume that the round cap takes care of the sharp edge ?

    Yes the round cap takes care of the sharp edge and by adjusting the point size of the line you can adjust the thickness of the glass and keep an even thickness and after converting to shape and removing what you don't want you can easily adjust the profile to get areas of thick glass where you want them.
