One good way to improve the result is an extension of drawing around the overall shape, by drawing each of the other shapes within the image, too, and import them into Xara3d, thus completely rebuilding the image in vector format. Each shape can be given its own colour within Xara3D, thus doesn't need to have a bitmap painted onto it. The new image will then be clean and pixel-free at any resolution, and has the added benefit of being visually more interesting, too. Each of the vector elements in the new image can be given different extrusions and bevels, and the lighting can be arranged to catch the edges of the different shapes as the whole thing spins.
