Default Blender 2.57 Stable version !

It's been a while since I've visited this forum... I'm glad that it' still "alive" and going strong. Her's a good news :
Yes, it's about Blender (still a fan and user).
The stable version 2.57 is out to grab ! After almost two years of development, beta testing, bug tracking etc. We have a stable version to work with.
You can read about it at : http://www.blender.org/development/r...s/blender-257/
    or
You can download it at :http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/

Anyway, I'm back and hopefully I'll have something to show (done with Blender 2.57).

    Later !

    Hello,

On another thread (and in the Xara Xone tutorial), Anas makes a really cool train in 3D7. He really gets more mileage out of that program than was ever meant to be. Excellent!

Though I have 3D7, I wanted to try the same approach, but in Blender 2.57... I think I came pretty close on the wooden one.

Below are two images... One is an attempt at recreating the wooden train, per Anas. The other is the same basic image, but "chromed." Enjoy!

    Peace

    James

I really like the wooden version of this train, simple yet very realistic... keep it going...

I like both James. You sure are getting good with that program. Makes me want to jump in and try and learn it. I keep thinking that but never do it. You are a real inspiration. Thanks.

Never give up. You will never fail, but you may find a lot of ways that don't work.

Thank you gidgit and many thanks to Larry for the very nice comments!

It was through seeing cool artwork that wasn't made in Photoshop that inspired me to try Xara software in the beginning. Hopefully, the same thing will happen for some Xara users, to branch out and use Blender for scenes or the creation of elements in their Xara-made works.

Larry, if you go to learn it and hit a sticking point trying to do some particular thing, just ask! If I can help, I will.

    Take care,

    James

    Hello Tom

There are many import options in Blender. Some of them you have to turn on by going to User Preferences. (many of the things in Blender are activated this way, so that the software isn't bloated with tons of unused options)

    Have fun!
