Unwanted layers ... preventable?

It seems that whenever I drag an image into Pro 6 from another application, I end up with a second layer in the file I'm working on ... which becomes cumbersome for subsequent operations.

Is there a way to prevent this? Or an easy way to merge layers?

Other than for web pages, most of my work is easiest to do with a single layer.

in utilites > options on the general tab there is a drop down menu 'Importing layers' - you could try setting this to 'Import layers into the active layer'

Yes, that worked.

I had never looked at the choices because the default setting says "Maintain imported layer names" ... which didn't strike me as having anything to do with creating a new layer or not.

I really hate that when you wind up with things scattered on several new layers. Steve's suggestion is what I use.
