Default How do you get rid of white background?

Hi - I'd like to know how to get a round image to show without its surrounding rectangle of white background? Sorry if this seems very basic, but I have few skills with Xara. I'm using Xara Extreme v3.2, but dont use it often enough to know quite how to approach this problem. Please can anyone spell out the steps to take? Is it to do with having a transparent background layer or am I a bit misguided? I make small images in Xara and show them on a variety of different-coloured backgrounds and I want the same image to look good on any coloured background I use. Thanks very much.

    Welcome Rosmary,

Yeh this is a common question by xara users new to the software or like yourself, just a casual user.

Fortunately there have been many xara users who have helped others with tutorials and even screen videos.
One such video by Egg Bramhill can be viewed here.

Other videos include this one from Xhris.

if you are making vector images in xtreme 3.2 then maybe all you need do is export them as file type .png making sure the color depth is set at 'True color + alpha' in the export dialog box

file menu > export > type file name and click export > set color depth option to 'True color + alpha' and click export

do not use file type .jpg - this does not support [cannot do] transparency

It turns out that the help given by "handrawn" was perfect for what I want to do. All I needed to do was export as a *.png file & set colour depth at "True color+alpha".
It was simple, accurate and absolutely spot on.
I'm keeping all the other replies in case I need them in future, though. Thanks all of you.....

I created this Workbook tutorial for you Rosemary. It might come in handy if you have a bitmap with a colored background and wish to do the same thing http://www.xaraxone.com/webxealot/wo...kbook%204.html
