Background Fill

Hi Xperts.

If I draw a shape and then fill it with texture, then I can change the size of the fill by moving the fill handles.

But...

If I set the fill as the 'Background' then it seems that I cannot adjust the size of the fill and therefore, the fill looks very poor because you cannot adjust the size to suit and you can see that it is stepped according to the size of the fill.

There must be a way of adjusting this as I had a different result but I don't know what I was doing at that time!

Any ideas please?

Well Rik,
Go to Page & Layer Gallery, unlock the Page background,-- unlock the Rectangle, if you want you can delete the shadow of the rectangle too, after unlocking the Page background Rectangle you can edit and adjust the fill using the fill tool like any shape filled with texture.

Hi BP.

I did as you suggested but I cannot adjust the size of the fill.

I can move the fill around the page, just as I would be able to if I had applied the fill to a rectangle. But unlike the fill in a rectangle, I cannot adjust the size of the fill when applied as a background.

You can see by the attached pic, I have unlocked everything but I do not get the handles to be able to adjust the size of the fill.

Hi Rik,
Select the rectangle with the Fill Tool !!!!!!
You will see the fill handle if you select the Rectangle with the fill tool, try that please.

Hi BP.

In the first place, I have not been talking about any rectangles. I can manage those.
This was to do with filling the PAGE with a background.

I could not get any resize handles on the page.

Anyway...

I have no idea what is happening. I can do it now.

I knew what I wanted to do and should have been able to do it. It just wasn't working the way I expected and the way it should have!

So, I can only thank you for your patience and persistence.

I had a similar issue with applying a fill to the background and then trying to use a contone to change the coloring of it. I was not able to do this, so the pinkish texture that I chose had to remain pink. When I tried to unlock and contone it, the design area showed it the way I expected, but the preview web page showed a flat white BG.

I just tried again and it did the same thing.

I tried what Rik was doing as well, and sure enough I get the resize handles, but when I preview the site, the original fill size and orientation are still there.

Thoughts? Can you reproduce the same issue?

Hi Slavelle.

Your question is to do with web and I've not done anything to do with the web using Xara.

Everyone tells me that it's dead simple to produce what I do with Frontpage but I have not had a go yet.

So, apologies that I cannot try and reproduce what you say in your post.

What BP said is correct, just dig a little deeper and you can do it.
You can change the fill using the fill arrows but you cannot change the size of the image because you cannot see the bounding box so view at 25% and you'll see what I mean.
Make sure your bitmap is single tile and not repeating tile.
