Here is a quick and dirty attempt using Xara Xtreme 5.1 (non-Pro version).

Here is my attempt on paper bag, drew with the freehand tool from mind, objects cloned and applyed linear Stained glass transparency to clones.

This image uses the Creases 2 fabric texture from the Fills Gallery to add some "grunge" to the paper.
