    Default Mould Tool Distorts Letters

    Hello,

since the initial thread starter question seems to be solved, and I do not want to make a new thread I add my question here.
Mods or admins please make it as a new thread if you think putting it here is unwanted.

My problem: I have added the mold feature to a text line and the upper parts of letters (where actually the mold effective) became distorted (see attachment).

Is there a way to avoid it?

    Thanks in advance

What type of mould did you use for I can't replicate your problem. Just use the default envelope and use Ctrl to pull up your top ends and then use the node handles to achieve your shape. Although I am a mod I have no rights in this area but you should have started a new thread.

I moved the above posts to a new thread.

I was able to replicate the distortion.

The only way to avoid distorting your text is to be cautious about what font is used and how much change is applied with the Mould Tool.

In the attached image the top 3 text objects use the Times New Roman font.

The two text objects at the bottom of the image use Accent Heavy SF font.

In the Accent Heavy SF font the horizontal portions of letters have more height than those of the Times New Roman font. This allows the Accent Heavy SF font to accomodate more change than the Times New Roman font.

Bearing in mind both Albacore's and Soquili's posts, I was able to achieve the desired effect using Times New Roman Bold, with the default envelope and using the Ctrl key when moving the node positions.

I did exactly so as Albacore described, but the distortion still occured.
    I used Dynamic font.

Soquili's suggestion would be good, however it limits the possibilities of using font types.

Thank you both for the replies (and the new thread...!

    iamtheblues,

what do you mean using the Ctrl key?

I wrote the text, then applied the Mold default envelope.
Then I selected both upper corners (with the Shift key pressed).
Then I dragged those corners upwards while Ctrl key pressed in.
The node handles do not allow me to use the Ctrl key, so I have to be very careful to drag them only vertically.

Here's a mini tutorial showing how I did it. There is a toggle mesh option that you could use instead of drawing the guides, but the mesh is almost impossible to see.

I wonder if the problem is a monitor display problem vs. and actual distortion problem.

Did you try printing out the enveloped text?

Formatted or converted text is vector and should not distort.

The Ctrl constrains the direction of the control handles, and almost any other Xara function.
