How to Cut objects on different layers and Paste to one layer?
when I Copy + Paste, each object gets pasted to it's own layer.
I know you can goto a layer> select all the content> right click> Move to current Layer.
is there a better way?

Simple.
Create a new layer.
Ensure all layers are visible and editable.
Select all.
Copy.
Then ensuring only the new layer is editable,
"paste in place" from the edit menu or Ctrl+Shift+V
All shapes on all layers will then be accurately placed
on the new layer in the correct order.
"Intbel" ... "Can't" is not an option.
Compliance is futile. Resistance is futile. Just do your own thing an' ignore 'em.
This is one of my bugbears in the latest version and was introduced as part of the web design part of Xtreme (Which is genius but I don't do a lot of web design)
My work around is to select all the objects I want to cut and then group them. Paste in place then works as advertised. Not Ideal but I prefer it to using the move to layer. Probably just because I was used to the old way of doing things.
Blessings on Soquili. He updated XaReg so we can turn that "feature" off.
You can download XaReg from the XaraXone Shareware page. http://www.xaraxone.com/html/shareware.html
Install it, then look for the MultiLayer Clipboard option and turn it off.
If that is unselected, will that effect web design?

Welcome back Raymond
Can't get your method to work [XXP5] without a grouping stage... maybe I am missing something..
on the subject of grouping - a normal [not soft] grouping will move everthing to the top layer - so you can group directly to a new layer with a dummy object [which you can then ctrl+click>delete or ungroup>delete]
another way of moving objects to single layer.......

Often one of the traps working with layers is you must select the layer you are working on or pasting into. Once you get that firmly fixed in your mind, then things become a little easier. I wont let on how long it took to imbed in my mind...... but I got it now!!!
In XP5 is shows up this selected layer highlighted in blue.

Good tips. Especially Xareg!!!
The funny thing is that on the face of it a multi-level clipboard should be a really useful thing. I don't Know why I haven't ever used it
Glad to be of service. And if you appreciate XaReg, hit the Donate button and send Bill a few bucks to thank him for his efforts. It is "shareware", after all.
You've used it every time you've copied objects from multiple layers. Yes, it can be useful, but only if you happen to need layer retention. I can't remember any instance in which I've needed it, so it's been nothing but trouble for me. OTOH, apparently it's important to the people doing web design....a multi-level clipboard should be a really useful thing. I don't Know why I haven't ever used it
It has to be said it is extremely useful when, say, softgrouping lineart layer[s] + colouring layer[s] + background layer[s] for a given character - as you are able to move he/she/it ' s position as a group whilst preserving the layer structure [far easier, quicker and 'safer' than leaving it ungrouped making sure everything is selected and then moving it]
but there are times when everything needs to be consolidated onto one layer and then it is a darned pain - so great to have the choice
EDIT: - when I say move here, I am really thinking of moving to a new xar file [or of course copying]
