Default Convert Image to Two Color

A friend asked me to recreate an effect in a poster. She had the original image. I'm guessing the poster was done in Photoshop, but really don't know.

The original image is converted to two colors and the lighter areas map to one while the darker shades map to the 2nd color. There are no degrees of darkness, just two colors. (Technically, is that monochrome?)

Contone doesn't give you the desired effect. See attached image to see original and desired effect. (It looks better at a larger size/higher res.)

I was able to create the 2nd image in the attachment using a free utility I found (Just Google and download WhiteNoir. It is a single, small .exe program. No install.) It is close to the original effect. I'm wondering, of course, if it can be done purely within Xtreme? I'm not up on all the bitmap effects built-in and thought someone else might know how.

    Thx.

Same idea Steve but not using the Mehdi filter.

    1. Live Effects Tool > Color > Threshold - Adjust threshold setting until you have the desired black and white.

    2. Create Bitmap Copy - True Color - same resolution as the original photo

    3. Adjust the light and dark contone colors in the Color Editor

Yep. The MEHDI filter just give smoother threshold results.

A similar effect to the threshold filter, is to use the shade curve draw the curve as steps you get a lot of extra control .

Using example image, after using the curve filter convert to black and white then bitmap copy so you can tone to the colour of choice.

Completely without Live effects or Bitmap copy, plus easily adjustable smooth threshold:

    - Set Light Contone, Set Dark Contone
    - Photo tool, Levels dialog
    - Adjust Input range so that the black and white triangles are almost at the same position close to the middle of the X axis
    - Adjust smooth threshold with grey triangle

    Or, without the 'Levels' dialog

    - Set Light Contone, Set Dark Contone
    - Photo tool, set photo contrast 100

OK, that's definitely the best way An additional bonus is that you can then just adjust Brightness to adjust the threshold.
