Red face Circle on a square - how to make square transparent?

It's actually a picture of a person against a white background, but circle on a square sums up the simplicity of the picture... the background is just one colour (perhaps that makes things easier, I don't know).

I would like to be able to pick the white of the background and change it to transparent. That way the picture can sit happily on any faintly coloured background and not just white.

Please tell me that I don't have to trace and I can just click a little here and there.

It was a jpeg; now a xar file; and will be exported as png for the web.

    Thanks

Try the MEHDI eraser plugin or a stained glass transparency type.

You can also try the 'Transparent' (labeled : Transp) button in the bitmap gallery for the selected image.

    Hi Splodger,

Which version of Xtreme do you have?

An imported jpeg remains a jpeg even when you save your .xar file, it is embedded within the .xar.

Open your .xar file and select the jpeg image. Click the Live Effects Tool.
Click the New button on the infobar.
Select Mehdi from the list of Live Effects >> Eraser Classic.
White is the default colour to be erased, so no need to change that.
Adjust the Tolerance to a value that gives you the transparency you want.
Click the OK button to accept the modified image.
When exporting your modified image to png you may need to use the True Color + Alpha color depth for the transparency to also be saved.

The first attached image is the original jpg file and the second is a png exported after using the Mehdi Eraser live effect.

Because the thumbnail viewer uses the forum post background colour you will need to save the png to your hard drive and put it on a coloured background to see the transparency is actually there.

Thank you gentlemen, Mehdi worked really well, just what I needed.
